Total noob here! Is there any software that I can get that will allow remote operation of the camera via usb please?

I have a CCTV camera and some mics rigged in my garden so that my wife can observe the birds on our 32" Sony tv. The camera has infra red but every night a pesky spider would weave its web across the lens! This gave a sort of diffraction pattern.
I treated the camera and cables with Jungle Formula Extra Strength insect repellent and have had no spidey in four days!
I am more into computer music systems than photography but would like to rig something to get higher res' pictures of the wildlife.
