I think it could be quite popular with people who just do holidays and outings rather than enthusiasts, like I said in my op the price puts it into DSLR territory and the KX is far superior, maybe they need to knock a ton off the price.

They claim it has a new high tec sensor but I am very doubtful about how good it will be in low light and again with the 700mm + lens, it was hard enough getting enough light with my old me super + 200mm telephoto unless I used high iso film, so I can see grain being a problem.
 
Has someone like dpreview or imaging resource tested it yet? It does have RAW capture so there would be ways to reduce the noise. Also it is F2.8 at the wide end so there is some advantage as a lot of kit lenses are f3.5 or f4.
 
I have the Fuji S100 FS, and even though its an older model, I think it is much better than the newer HS10/HS20 from the samples I've seen. Sure it's not as good as a true DSLR, but its damn close. ISO 800 is amazing on it. Just need to figure out why Aperture doesn't support its RAW files... :thinking:

Yes, but the sensor is larger thn the one used on the HS10, which had good write ups. Also, you do not have to shoot at 16 mp, you can shoot at a lower mp which will help with noise.

All in it looks to be a fantastic camera, one which will give someone many high end DSLR features at low end DSLR money.

Yes it is not a DSLR, and there will always be an image quality issue, however it will give people a much broader introduction to many different areas of photography that only a DSLR and big bank account previously did - and I'm talking wildlife, sports, macro etc. which will need expensive lenses to get anywhere near some shots on a DSLR. Now I am not saying that you will get similar quality all the time, but enough of an idea to see if you like an area of photography without the investment.

The flippy screen, HD video, slo mo capture, hotshoe, etc.etc. will also appeal to many.

Just because it is not a DSLR does not mean it should be discounted, though many on here will do this.

It is a compromise camera.

Are there any reviews with the actual camera, rather than the "first look" model that did the rounds in Jan? I did a quick search but could not find one, so if you have, stick a link up.

As I understand it, the camera is to be released some time this month so I guess they were in fact the "first look" model but what I cannot understand is why it is in my wifes catalogue for £499 the robbing Ba****ds, I guess they will be taking advanced orders.
