Fuji S5000 vs Fuji S2500HD

I've just purchased a new Fuji S2500HD
I read reviews about it... and thought it was a good investment

Received today
I've taken a few snaps
I'd give it a rating of: 'OK'

I've got a Fuji S5000
Only 3MP and doesn't have other features like face recognition

The pictures I take with that are absolutely *brilliant*
Quality is great most of the time

What I do: just stick it on auto and snap away for both cameras

I'm not an expert by any means

What should I do? Should I return the S2500HD? I'm really dissapointed!

At the moment, I'm left without a camera - the kids lost the only xD memory card I had and instead of buying a new one (which for some reason seem to be expensive!), I thought I'd buy a new camera!

Why why why can it be that a camera that is nearly 7 years old can be better than it's replacement several generations later!?

Any replies would be great

I had (at one point) a Fuji S5500, and the quality was much better than the S5700 that my gran had at the time. It comes down to the processing (I think) in that back then , Fuji didn't seem that keen on NR, and as such left the images noisey, but tack sharp. Whereas from the S5700, they started the process of applying tons of NR, and that gave rubbishy soft shots when going higher up the scale. However, I would have thoght they'd be similar at low ISO speeds. What type of quality issues are you having exactly?

since i had my s5000, i've managed to buy 3 more later editions for other people
ALL of which i would class as being really poor

well, i'd say it was to do with the sharpness of edges and the colour - both for my s5000 are pretty damn good - but for my new s2500hd - really really poor

as i said: all i do is stick to auto and shoot!
ok, i press down the button half way, wait for the beep sound when the lens is focused and then press all the way down - that's as far as my sophistication goes
(though, i would also argue that i have a great eye and know what make a good shot and know when to take a picture)

Yeah sorry, noise reduction. Why not post a couple of examples taken from your 5000 and 2500 HD? TBH, I wouldn't expect the camera to be at fault - as focusing issues, back focusing etc - that's only associated (as far as I know) with DSLRs and their lens. But remember - the new camera isn't always better! especially as (from memory) the 2500 HD has about 12 mp and a 15x zoom, all crammed onto a small sensor, whereas the 5000 has a manageable 10x zoom, and only 3 mpm, so there is much more room for the pixels to gather light, thereby not utilizing NR as much (I think thats right!)
