Ok so I'm planning to get a refurb fuji x100s from the fuji site and their memory cards are half price if bought with it. Is there any reason why I should not get one and buy a sandisk etc instead

Not really, memory cards are very reliable these days. The only card that I've had fail on me and lose pictures was a sandisk. As long as you go for a recognised brand you'll be fine,
you won't find much difference in reliability between cards from the major brands.

:agree:

Havent used the x100S but on my Xe1 there is 3-5 secs difference in writing to the card when comparing the Sandisk Extreme 80mb`s 32 gb card and a standard sd card i tried.
Bought mine from MyMemory for a decent price, only a couple of quid between the various Extreme versions.
