Fuji X-E1/X-E2/X-E2S/X-E3 Owners Thread

Pentax K adapter came today and so now I can play with my mf Pentax lenses too.

Ooooh, please report results with the PK adapter, that might really drive me into pressing the button as I have a nicely building collection of M and A lenses... :)(y)

Pentax K adapter from SRB £29.95
Extremely well made, I've used SRB before for some very odd TLR filter adapters and can vouch for their machining abilities.
All test shots taken at f8 - Shots taken out of bedroom window so excuse the urbanity.
All manual focus PK lenses were easy to focus with Fuji's focus peaking aid.

All shots have had my usual workflow applied in PP for consistency.

Test 1:
Super Paragon 28mm f2.8 prime lens.
Results: Not good - as expected for a 30 year old 3rd party prime.

Test 2: Tokina 80-200 f4.5 zoom
Results: Surprisingly good. Sharp at 80mm and acceptable after PP at 200mm.

Test 3: SMC Pentax 50mm f1.7
Results:Amazing for a 40 year old lens. A touch soft in comparison with the Fuji 18-135, but I guess that's to be expected. Certasinly acceptable after PP.

In terms of price I have no idea. But, you have bought yourself an awesome camera and lens so I'd say you've done very well!

Absolutely loving the Samyang 12mm on my X-E2, it's just a wonderful combination of lens and body, nicely weighted, sturdy.

I've read great things about the IQ but iirc isn't it manual focus only?

Yep, but a lens of this focal length is easy to focus, especially stopped down. Love mine - it's really sharp!

Nice, what kind of subjects do you use it for? When focusing do you still get the distance scale in the vf/display?

Nope, it's totally manual so no display of distance. Focus peaking makes it easy if you need to see what's in focus, but the evf shimmers for focused parts anyway so it's pretty easy. If you're not sure, focus near infinity and stop down :)

Subjects for me so far: landscapes and indoor derelict buildings.

Help - I'm picking one of these up today!

Any top tips for focusing? I don't really understand this infinity focusing business!

You'll see what's in focus in the viewfinder :D Put focus into M mode and press the rear command dial to zoom into the focus point to check focus.

Having recently bought a second hand X-A2 with the 16-50mm lens at a very good price and loving the SOOC shots but then not being able to get on with having no viewfinder and sold it on, I am now wanting to get another Fujfilm camera.
I currently own a Nikon D7000 and also a D750 but I am finding that although I love the D750 I am just not using it as much as I thought I would and may be better selling it and using the monies to better effect.
I would be keeping the D7000 and all my Nikon lenses but having now been bitten by the Fuji bug I just cant make up my mind what to do.
Does the X-E2 produce the same or better images SOOC as the X-A2 or would there be a better option in the Fujifilm line-up?
I am a keen hobbyist and I like to try all aspects of photography so no 1 subject in particular would be my main target.

If you are shooting landscapes with the Samyang 12mm, the easiest way together started is to set lens to F8 and wind ficus round to infinity, then wind back just a touch.

Put the camera in Aperture Priority mode and press the shutter, bingo your picture will be all in focus!!

The main issue from using such a wide angle lens isn't focus issues but unwanted stuff. in the composition. When composing check carefully around all edges of the viewfinder to make sure your composition is correct. It really easy to get unwanted stuff in the field of view with such a wide angle lens, if you do you'll end up cropping which kinda defeats having such a wide angle lens!!

Also, pick a foreground interest and get CLOSE. People make the mistake of thinking wide angles are great for landscapes, but they push everything away. It may seem counterintuitive, but ultrawides shine when you get close to something, the landscape should be considered more of an interesting background rather than the point of the photo.

I would think image quality would be pretty similar - you might want to take a look at the XT-10 which is more like a mini DSLR rather than a range finder - big bonus is that the screen is tiltable.

There are several other good reviews/blogs, a Google for "fuji astrophotography" might be quicker than reading back through all the Fuji user threads here. It's a topic that's come up before but the relevant posts are likely buried in long threads.

Cheers, yeh, have found some stuff on google. Am visiting N Wales later this month hoping to give it a try. The widest lens I have is 27mm f2,8, debating whether to just go with that or buy something specially.

Buy second hand, try it out, sell on 2 weeks later having lost £5 or so... At least, thats what i tell her... I mean YOU tell her... *coughcough* ;)

Haha, unfortunately she's started to get wise to that one now....

I can borrow an old manual 35mm lens that's 28mm f2.8, which by my reckoning is about 18mm on a APSC... that could work, right?

Wrong way round, that'l be about 42mm...

27mm will be fine, you might just have to concentrate on a good bit of the milky way as opposed to including a landscape etc...

@Mr Perspective simply stunning shots ! How are you processing them ? I can't get anything even 10% as good with my X-E1

Colour work in Lightroom (straightening, my weak point!, crop if required, usually convert to Provia, do any shadow/highlight work) b&w conversion and processing in Silver Efex Pro. Don't normally do a lot in either, but I have created some custom filters in Silver Efex Pro, which give me a good base to start from.

I think the trick here is that you can push the Fuji raw files quite a bit, don't be afraid and develop your own style

Any strap or handstrap recommendations for an XE1? The neckstrap is a PITA (too thin) but I'm afraid a thicker neckstrap would be a bit much for it. Any ideas?
