Hi guys I would like to bring up the new baby from Fuji, the X-Pro 1, I'm thinking of getting a new camera that i could use anywhere and have it always with me. anyone owns one of them? how does the ISO performs? ease and speed of use? White Balance in tricky situations? any other features? :clap:
 
I really fancy the idea of one of these but sadly I think that the chances of handling one at my local Jessops at anytime in the near future are remote as they only seem to stock Canon, Nikon and a few point and shoot cameras these days. I've bought my last few cameras on line just based on reviews and what other people say on forums but from what I've read so far although the image quality of the X Pro 1 is widely reported to be good I'm too worried about the following points to buy one on line without trying one first...

1. AF speed is reported to be anything from ok to poor so I guess YMMV.
2. Manual focusing... same story but as it's FBW and people are saying that Fuji's imlpimentation isn't as good as that of other manufacturers that's a bad sign for me as I have FBW Panny lenses that I, frankly, hate using and if it wasn't for having a manual lens I'd probably have given up on Panny bodies.
3. Chattering lenses in changing light. Some say that it's annoying as hell and some say that they haven't even noticed it with many others making comments somewhere between these extremes. I've watched a clip on Youtube demonstrating the issue and I have to say that I think it'd have me stamping on the camera after 5 minutes use.
4. I really don't know if I want to buy into another system with FBW no marking lenses. I know that this is the way things are going but I just don't like using them and I really don't want to buy into another system just to end up using manual lenses. Photography is a hobby for me and I want to enjoy it and at the moment I don't enjoy FBW lenses.

I could take a drive or train to a city to try one at a bigger dealer but frankly I can't be bothered to make a special trip. Maybe I'll be able to try one when in a city for another reason but at the moment although I was looking forward to this camera coming out there seem to be too many possible minus points to motivate me to make the effort :(

I was surprised to see one in the window of my local camera shop today when I went in to purchase an X10. Obviously I had to have a play with the camera and the 35mm lens on it. It feels strange to hold, maybe a bit too square in design, but nicely weighted with the lens. It didn't have a memory card in it so I could only quick preview images that I took, but from what I saw I was impressed, the high ISO capability seems very good and the sharpness of the lens is very impressive. However, the autofocus seems the same as the X100 and X10, just a little bit slow, which I'm happy to accept on my X10, but for something in this price range I'd just expect a bit more. Button lay out is nice and all high quality build as expected from fuji these days. In the end I did have to put it down as my wallet was starting to itch :p Of course this is just my impression after a little play so take what you will from it :)

I had a good half an hour with the X1-Pro at focus on imaging and was very impressed with the new toy. The high ISO was amazing, so was the build quality. I will wait for the prices to drop and possibly get one for x-mas with the wide angle and the normal lens.
 
Heh, yeah love that camera. Recently had a chance to play with one of them and it seems great, build quality, speed and most of all image capture. really considering to buy one of them now
