Fuji x100 focussing??

I have a quick question about the fuji x100, and also the leica x1. Seeing as there is seemingly no rangefinder coupling in the x100 (or leica external viewfinder), then there is no way of focussing optically through the viewfinder and you must focus through the LCD/fuji EVF? I can't seem to find any information about how the process works, so my 3 questions are:

-on the fuji are the AF points overlayed on the screen, and can I see confirmation that it has auto-focussed?
-Is there any assist for manual focus? Or at least, will the AF point flash when focus is achieved (like an SLR)
- when using the x100 evf, is focussing similar to an SLR in the sense that adjusting the lens will throw the image out of focus

if the answer is a no to all 3, then I really can't see the point of having the viewfinder...

You see the AF point in the hybrid viewfinder and it changes to green when in focus.

You don't get any confirmation, you can only zone focus when in Optical viewfinder mode, you get a distance scale at the bottom and a band showing the in-focus area at your given aperture. In EVF mode you get the same but obviously you see the image focus point change.

I've never noticed changing aperture moving focus.....

The X100 is not a rangefinder, if that it what you want then keep saving for an M9 because you will be dissapointed, focus-by-wire MF is not good.

The point of the optical viewfinder is that you can well outside the frame, and/or keep both eyes open it's great for street shooting, and very bright.

Just two things to add to Chris' description.

When you're in manual focus mode, you can press a button to instantly see a 10x enlargement in the view finder to tell if you've got the focus right. (You can also, whilst in manual focus mode use the AF-lock button to do auto-focus, thus combining the benefits of autofocus and manual focus modes).

The other benefit of having a viewfinder is that it is both more stable and more discreet than holding out a camera to use an LCD screen to compose.

thank you, this clears things up for me, I think a small m4/3 SLR with a viewfinder (like the g3) would be a better option until I save enough for that m9
