Fuji x100

Very happy with my X100. I used it at a wedding last weekend - the registry office was near silent and yet nobody could tell I was shooting it is so quiet.

I shot RAW and Lightroom can pull the files around quite a bit without too many problems.
 
Any sample photos you guys can post? I know there are hundreds of samples out there, just good to see some from someone who is new(ish) to the camera. Seriously thinking of ordering one

Edit: Been ordered! Seriously can't wait to try this camera out after reading about it for months

Go for it, you will be impressed. Theres a lot of photos on my Flickr taken with the X100 if you want to whet your appetite. Theres also a Flickr group to look at.

Camera arrived yesterday, very impressed so far. Perfect size and weight, feels really good in the hand. Hybrid viewfinder is really good but haven't quite got the hang of the framing box moving around yet. Focus is better than I expected.

Need to get a case for it, don't fancy the leather fitted one or half case. Any normal soft cases that anyone can recommend?

I've just bought a snapr 35 black rapid, the x100 fits fine even with hood attached. Had a Delsey D60 which was very snug, but too tight a fit for an x100 + filter adapter + pinch lens cap. (no chance with a hood...)

Re focussing, have a play with manual focus + autofocussing with AFL, it as a nice alternative to afs. Also ensure you have a fast enough card (mines 45mb/s write), format the card in camera, also heard people say formatting internal memory improved speed.

been using one for a month now. Great camera for the price. Love the ergonomics. Only thing that lets it down is the AF. If the light is in any way challenging it struggles.

Ok thanks. Been having a look at cases quickly and I think I'll actually have to go for a fuji style fitted case, it's the least bulky without a huge strap on it. Did I read somewhere that there is a fuji copy that's actually better? Don't fancy paying £80 for camera case!

Not sure weather to bother with the hood but I would like a filter on the front and a pinch lens cap so I guess that means I need to get the hood? Want to keep it as slim as possible really since it's a compact

I was getting a fair bit of lens flare. The hood does cut this down, but not eliminate.

Just have to remember to remove it when using the built in flash so it doesn't cast a shadow.

Also with UV filters, could I get the filter adapter and screw a UV straight into that instead of a hood? I guess so since its a filter adapter, doh!

Hi Rob, may i point you to my classified advert for an new original fuji leather case?

I also used 2 filters, but i could not use a pinch lens cap as the front filter is the wrong way round

Rob - You can use a filter adapter, a filter, a pinch lens cap and the lens hood all together - it is what i am currently using

I've just had a look, does look very nice just way out of my price range. Will probably settle for a fake to be honest.

Ah! I was thinking of getting that set up but maybe not as I'd like to use a cap.
 
I'm getting sorely tempted by an X100. Also love the X10 but somehow the X100 is drawing me in. The force is strong in this one.

Anyway, before I take the plunge, can anyone just confirm a couple of things. Firstly is there a dedicated 'wife mode' that will deal with all of the exposure settings? I'd read about setting aperture and shutter speed to 'A' but I presume this won't also default to auto iso, auto flash etc? I only ask as I could see this replacing our compact but my wife would never use it if she couldn't just pick it up and fire off shots.

Another question, has anybody used a Lee filter system on one. Is there enough room?
 
Im also getting very tempted to buy the x100 as jessops keep breaking their promise on delivering a zeiss 24mm for my nex7. My only concern is the autofocus on the x100, some people say it's great, some say It's bad for speed & accuracy; can anyone shed more light on the focusing issue / non issue?
 
Im wondering if I'm missing a part of the battery charger....
The battery is too small for the charger (both correct models according to the manual), so I have to wedge a pound coin behind the battery to ensure it stays in contact with the charging pins.
Anyone else?!?

There is a plastic doofer that should come with it that makes it fit. Christ knows why they designed it like that. Pound coin performs the same function.
 
Sounds like you are without the detachable plastic bit which sits at the opposite end from the pins. Crap design, easily lost apparently.

Don't think, just buy! Honestly I must have thought about getting one for a month before I bought one. Mainly waiting for funds to allow but I read loads of reviews and looked at hundreds of photos. Straight away I loved it, so nice to hold and it puts the fun back into photography a bit if you're used to using a SLR. The day after I got it I went to a wedding so had the perfect chance to try it out. I mainly set the shutter speed to A, had the ISO set to auto with a max of 3200 and sorted the aperture/flash manually. So easy to use so should be fine for 'wife' mode once she gets used to the viewfinder. The built in flash is also really good, just adds the right amount of fill.

Tempted to pick one up before I go on holiday. I see that I can get one for less than £550 from Fuji refurb with a discount code. Anybody else gone that route?

Yeah thats exactly what I did, it was a refurb but looks brand new. The ONLY thing I can think of is that the box had a few light marks on it but if someone sold it to you as new you wouldn't look twice. I also got a memory card from fuji, class 10 works fine. I selected 16gb as 8gb was out of stock but they sent me an 8gb and two 4gbs so not sure who worked that one out! Bare in mind next day delivery is a tenner but it's still a bargain

Lots have gone that route but as it is currently £629, I'd spend the little extra. However, there is no reason not to go for the refurb other than wanting it new.

Get, if possible, a high speed card - at least 45MB/s and preferably 90MB/s. That really does make a difference to the performance of the camera.

Yep that's the one I was looking at. I actually haven't seen any used ones sell for less yet so it seems like a safe bet. Got a few bits and bobs to sell to finance it but I think I might be placing an order next week.

Anybody used one of these cards? I assume it will be up to the job.

www.tripman.co.uk has Gordy leather wrist straps. I have one on mine and its very nice.
