Fuji X30 Question re Lens Hood

I'm thinking of buying an X30 and it's being offered with free lens hood kit. The lens hood has slots cut into it and I wondered whether this is a problem regarding dust etc getting onto the lens. Possibly a daft question, but is there a way of blocking the slots?!

The lens is protected by the filter in the kit as it goes between the hood and the lens.
I can't see a sensible way of blocking the slots. You might find a suitable alternative on eBay but all the ones I've seen mimic the original.
 
Just noticed it doesn't come with a 'proper' battery charger which has put me off somewhat.
 
If dust gets onto the lens just wipe it off? The lens hood is supposed to block stray light, not dust.
 
I'm aware what the hood does - but thanks for your input. Thre filter, however, does help to protect the lens and, unlike many, I've never used a lens without a filter fitted in 50-odd years of using cameras.

As above, the filter screws onto the front of the lens and the hood on top of that. However, there are lots of threads about the relative benefits of UV/protective filters for anything other than 'high risk' situations like next to a rally stage etc so I'd personally just be using the hood.

Like you I prefer to use an "OFF camera " charger so bought a universal battery charger from Amazon ( x-pro uni charger £9.97)

I bought the X30 from Digital rev so could well afford to pay for one. The charger has the benefit that it works equally well with all my camera batteries.

As to the lens hood and filter set The slots are in the hoods because they were needed on the X20 and X10 to give less restriction on the viewfinders.
However the same lens is on all three cameras and never seems to suffer from flare anyway ( and I have all three cameras)

I do not use either the hood or filters, they are somewhat unnecessary, even though in the past I have always used them on previous cameras. they are certainly not worth the cost.
 
I've yet to run out of charge in a day using the X-30 starting from full. Just need to remember to plug it in to a USB socket every evening after use.
