Fuji XT-1 with Canon flash

Hello. I've used the Canon 430EXII flash on my Fuji XT-1 successfully a few times now in manual mode.

I'm on holiday and, having time to experiment, have tinkered around with the camera settings a bit, and today the flash wouldn't fire. I tried everything but it wouldn't work. Eventually I did a reset on the camera settings and hey presto - back to normal!

I checked the flash settings it was set to Flash mode ( Forced Flash ) as before so something else must be causing the problem. I know flash won't work in silent mode but that wasn't on. Any suggestions as to what might have caused the problem?

Hi Colin, yes it was indeed. Would this cause it? I assumed it would allow me to use flash at lower shutter speeds which are mechanical. Is this incorrect? The funny thing was the tiny included Fuji flash worked fine.
 
I guess I could just go through each settings change I make and test the flash at each one. Will take a bit of time to do that mind you
