I've decided to give up the DSLR and move to using a lighter and smaller camera which I can have on me at most times.
Without a doubt after extensive research the Fuji EX-1 is the camera I want. But sadly the wife has vetoed the idea on the basis of cost, so for now it isn't going to happen :( Selling my kit is part of the plan to fund another purchase, but I haven't got much so would probably only get a couple of hundred quid for it. What I want to know is whether I can get comparable IQ - it must have an APS-C size sensor - but at a lower price. How does the Sony NEX-6 compare for instance? Or the Fuji X100 perhaps. Not sure about the lower pixel count though, and I'd have to think long and hard about having a fixed lens.
Interests are mainly landscape/urban.
Any advice much appreciated.

You could get a used x100 for not much over £300, lovely camera with exceptional image quality. Also a used x10 for £200, zoom lens with smaller sensor but still very good IQ.

Or maybe 2 cameras, x100 with the APS-C fixed focal length and an x10 or Sony RX100 for a bit of zoom? Albeit with smaller sensors

Exactly my current setup and it works for my needs but I use film cameras for much of the time too.

You lose out on the longer focal lengths but that's not been a great concern for me.
 
what have you got now?

I just got an x-e1 from the refurb shop and got an adapter to use my nikon lenses with it while i save up for a fuji lens.
 
Without a doubt the X100 is the best alternative. Check out Flickr and search nickycoe, I have a few pics on there after coming from a D7000
 
Thanks guys. Looks like x100 could be a great option. I'll do some more reading up about it. Question: I know there has been some discussion over its focusing, which has apparently been much improved by firmware updates. Is it likely Fuji will continue to release updates for the x100 when the x100s is released?
And does anyone have any experience of the Sony?

Nikon D60. I've got a Sigma 18-200 zoom - both bought off here a few years ago - but have probably taken 90% of my photos since I bought it with a cheap-ish compact. So I want a high quality compact-ish sized camera with DSLR level IQ. I know the X series Fujis aren't tiny by any means, but they are small enough to have with me most of the time. Attaching the chunky Sigma to it would kind of defeat the object.
Have to admit I hadn't thought of getting the x-e1 body only though. Food for thought.

The x100 image quality is superb, if you can live with the AF. NEX cameras are great, if they have the lenses you require.

My fault, I meant the Sony NEX-6. I have considered the RX100 though, but really do want the larger sensor.

Can you tell me where please as I would buy as many as I could get at £300.

They sell on eBay for £450+ all day long so a quick profit to be made.
 
Someone needs to get onto eBay as that was £100 lost there!

Well for £325 I have to agree that is a great camera for that price. I sold mine for £495 two months ago...
 
The nex7 is about to be replaced so you will see the prices fall. I bought a samsung nx10 last week for £167 with 2 lenses. At this price you can keep the d60 too.

Thats a great price for a x100 if you can live with the fixed lens.
