Fujifilm X-Pro 1 not nikon lens compatable

sorry if this has already been covered

but i have been waiting patiently for Fuji to release an upgrade from the S5 pro and instead they have come up with the new X-Pro 1 with its own Fujifilm X mount for their own Fujinon lenses.im sure the camera will have some following but with the 10s of thousand of S5 pro users waiting patiently i wonder if any success Fuji have with this new camera could have been bettered if they had released a new camera which S5 pro users could have upgraded too.it rather looks like any agreement with Nikon is well and truly over....im a bit more than gutted
 
Not a chance that a mirrorless camera would be built to accept SLR lenses.

The flange to focal plane distance is completely different, building the X-Pro to have the correct flange to FP distance for Nikon F mount would negate it's size advantage completely.

I imagine that before long there will be plenty of Nikon F to Fuji X adaptors available but of course these will have reduced functionality.

Sony have shown us that an adapting lenses designed for bodies with mirrors to work on one without and retaining full functionality is possible but the adaptor is bulky and costly so again, negates the size advantage that the X-Pro/Nex have.

Besides, Fuji have moved on quite a bit since the days of the S series and I doubt anyone would really see the X-Pro as a successor to the S5.
 
I am sure D300 or D700 or any of the yet-to-be-announced bodies will be a good enough upgrade. X pro 1 is a totally different product aimed at the different market segment. I guess it is pretty obvious Fuji is extremely unlikely to release another F mount body (as Nikon probably doesn't want them to do).

I believe Nikon pulled the plug on the partnership as they were seeing too many sales lost to the S5. In a way Fuji were a victim of their own success.

it will be interesting to see some of the Reviews on these adaptors if this does happen
 
The adapter itself is a relatively simple thing (often just a spacer, really,) and I don't know if we'll see in depth reviews of them... Look at MFT as an example, there are people using all sorts of lenses via an adapter and I'm pretty sure that they'll soon appear for the Fuji if it sells in any number.
 
The M mount adaptor which Fuji have in the pipeline will be the only one likely to be reviewed in any depth I think. I imagine this will be more than just a spacer which, as Woof Woof says, is what most of these SLR to mirrorless adaptors are. Of course, M mount lenses are designed or a shorter flange to FP distance so it doesn't even need to be a spacer.

With the similarities between the X-Pro and Contax's G cameras we might see an adaptor for these lenses too, although the requirement for aperture diaphragm to be built into the adaptor might cause problems.
