looking to buy a wide angle/ultra wide angle for my 5D, any advice would be appreciated
 
The Sigma 12-24 is as wide as it gets before fisheye sets in. Very good lens on the 5D.
 
Yep, very wide. I use it on my D700. Only down side is you can't use filters very easilly.

Shot at 12mm. If you arent carefull, you get your feet in the shot too.

How wide do you want to go?

I find the 17-40 + 5D to be a cracking combination.
