Full frame wide-angle lenses for Nikon?

hey everyone

taking the Nikon 12-24 out of the equation due to price, have been doing a bit of research into what the best alternative is?

have had a Sigma 10-20 on DX, but have now gone FX.

the Sigma 12-24 f4.5/5.6 seems to be coming out on top at the moment?

prices seem to be pretty wide-ranging? £600 at Clifton, £720 at Jacobs...

is this the best lens to looking at, or are there other worthy competitors? I'd like something similar to the DX 10-20: bit of zoom and wide.

The 12-24 is a great lens. Very fun to use but does require some forethought when using it at the wide end as you often get in more than you anticipated.
I sold mine for the 16-35 as I needed to use filters, but I do often miss the really wide end.
 
Isn't the 12-24 a DX lens? (Nikon that is)

The Nikon one is I think yeah, the sigma is FF though.

I'd love the 14-24mm f/2.8, but that huge bulging front element is the problem for mounting filters.

So, the 16-35 f/4 VR2 seems the better option, still very wide on FF, a stop slower however as I'd use it as a landscape/architectural lens that doesn't bother me. Plus you can always bump the ISO up. 77mm filter thread is perfect too for matching the 24-70 and 70-200.

I have the Sigma 15-30, nice lens ,big though .
Nice to handle.moved up to the Sigma 10-20 for the extra 5mm.
 
ah thank you all for the input, there's a bit more variety than I'd anticipated!

so, there seems to be:

Nikon 16-35
Nikon 17-35
Nikon 18-35

Sigma 12-24
Sigma 15-30

Tokina 16-28
 
The Nikon 18-35 is well worth a look if you feel like saving some cash. I've been using one alongside a Nikon 14mm prime for a few months now and if you play to the 18-35's strengths, it really is an excellent lens. Cheap too if you buy used.

The 14mm is sublime but a bit restrictive in terms of filter usage and being a fixed (very wide) length.

The 16-35 VR is probably what I will end up with eventually but I'm keeping an eye on the Tokina reviews as I had their 11-16 when on crop format and it was superb. If they can match that on full frame, I'd buy one in a heart beat.

When I got my D3 at the end of 2010 I also needed a FF wide angle lens and posted on here for advice. I was pointed in the direction of the then new 16-35f4. It cost £850 which was £400 cheaper than the 14-24f2.8. The combination of VR and high ISO capability of the D3 enabled me to take photos inside all the museums in Leicester without flash or tripod. Wouldn't be without it.
