Full GAS, Midi GAS & even Mini GAS

Before I joined TP I was content to have any old camera & take the odd snap but always carried a camera with me. The only reason I would change my camera is if it 'bust' which was a long time in between needing to buy. Since joining TP, about two years ago, I have bought & returned (DSR & embarrassed to say how many) & have bought & sold quite a few (how many - eek) different cameras but thankfully at the low end of spending. The only difference now is reading this forum.

I laughed at those who say they suffer GAS but am starting to wonder if there are different degrees of GAS & I may be diagnosed at the 'Mini GAS' end & whether it will progress to 'Midi' & then ''Maxi'. It will put a heck of a pressure on my OAP - perhaps I will need to take up robbing banks

But I think I'm almost cured :)

If we men have any form of GAS we need wife's who don't like clothes, shoes & handbags :thinking:

Many photographers are in denial.

For them, self diagnosis is not an option. ;)

... and you can't afford to buy anything :)
 
How does one determine one's level of GAS? Is it the number of zeroes after the £100 that one has spent over the past year and if so, does it have to be all on photographic equipment? I suppose another factor is the affordability - pocket depth/arm length? However it's defined, I'm pretty sure I have fairly chronic GAS, although it did go through an acute stage but I do seem to be in remission at the moment - not spent anything on kit for nearly a week!

If you can afford it, why not? While inflation is higher than interest, it pretty much costs (in real terms/spending power) to save, so we might as well enjoy what we can while we can. As my greatly missed Grandfather was fond of saying, "Shrouds have no pockets."
 
A whole week? Eek!
I've just bought a Contax 139, Contax RTS, Zeiss 50mm 1.7, Contax to Nex adaptor, cleaning swabs and liquid, rocket blower, Yashica 50mm 1.9 (and a 1.7), and a Yashica FX-D over the last 2 weeks.
But, I've finished now so the GAS has ended! :)
 
Well, I may have picked something up on Tuesday but I ordered it last year! Come to think of it, I haven't actually bought anything photographic this year.

I used to resolve GAS by spending the income from photography on kit, but that was in a previous world. I still GAS for stuff, but only for gear that offers something I don't have (like a particular range or image quality) rather than multiple copies of the same kind of thing.

OTOH I still have GAS for music stuff - about to sell a couple of guitars in order to attempt to acquire my first Backlund guitar (and maybe another lens ;))
 
Me neither, I hope I'm in remission as my bank can't take any more :-). Come to think of it I can't think of much else to get. My money is going on training this year I've decided :) (does that count ;) )
