Full manual Canon lens?

I have just been playing about with my spare 550D and an old kit lens in the garden. I was holding the lens reversed onto the camera to try my hand at some macro, yes I was bored and don't have a reversing ring lol. Considering the bodge job I had fun and want to give macro a shot.

I don't want to fork out on a full on macro lens, just a manual lens I can put onto a reversing ring. I'm after a full manual one so I can adjust the aperture without putting the lens back on the camera and taking it off again whilst holding the DOF button to set the aperture. Also looking about the 35mm range. 55mm on the kit lens reversed I wasn't happy with how close I could get and at 18mm it was a bit too close for my liking. 35mm or there about's I felt comfortable with.

I have not yet ordered a reverse ring. Waiting to find a manual lens so I know what size to get.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Edit: I won't actually be using the lens properly on the camera, so really I'm guessing it doesn't matter what brand it is because it will be screwed onto a reverse ring.

I wasn't sure about using one of them. Would it decrease picture quality? I just gathered using a reverse ring I'm not shoving more glass onto the lens then.

I'm a bit confused... Is the lens going to be mounted onto the camera?

Anyway... I bought an old manual focus Sigma 50mm f2.8 macro and I just can't fault it. There are lots of old macro lenses about and lots of old non macro's too. It doesn't have to be macro for reverse mounting does it? If not you could get an Olympus Zuiko 50mm f1.8 for under £20 or a 28mm f2.8 for under £30.

Not directly no, I confused myself as well don't worry.

I was thinking of having a reverse ring mounted to the camera, then the lens actually screws onto the ring by the screw in filter mount. So it's backwards.
 
Ah, so any cheap manual lens will do? You could get a Zuiko fit lens cheap.
 
if you want todo the reverse thing a 28mm is realisticly your cheapest suitable lens.

but for 35ish you can get a raynox, which id recommend

Can you link a raynox please? There's loads out there and I haven't looked into any before. cheers.
 
the 250 is about the same price, and offers greater magnification, thing is i dont know what magnification a reversed kit lens gives you, but the raynox 150 is the more recommended choice as its easier to use

you can also stack the raynox's should u need super magnification
