Came across this yesterday. Can anyone ID it for me please. (Didn't know if it would be one for the frying pan, so left it alone.) Measured about 15cm diameter.

A quick flick through my "Fungi of Northern Europe Book 2" (yes, that is sad!) would seem to suggest that this is a Macrolepiota Procera or Parasol Mushroom.

It is said to be edible but the stem is a little tough and should be avoided. Appears mainly in deciduous woodland and on the edges of copses between July and October.
