This is growing at the base of our flowering cherry -

That could be Ganoderma carnosum, if so seems to be a very rare find.

Thanks very much for that. I've just Googled it and it definitely looks like a young one I have to report it to Kew Gardens! I'll do that tomorrow.

Well it took a bit longer than 3/4 days but I had a reply this morning. This is what they have said
