I have an old tamron 200-500 sp lens which has internal fungus . Depending on who you talk to you will either be told that lens is scrap or it can be cleaned. Optically the lens still performs well and so I'd rather have it professionally cleaned . Has anyone had first hand experience with having had a lens professionally cleaned if so does it still present a danger to rest of my kit . Also any recommendations for a cleaning service in or near London . Thanks Jim

Jim,

Can't comment or help re cleaning the Tamron other than suggest speak to a Tamron supplier.

I've had a Canon lens with fungus. Sent it to them and had it cleaned without a problem.

They advised me to ensure that my photo gear be kept in as dry an atmosphere as possible away from anything that may cause damp which may lead to fungus. I use silica gel containers (purchased from Peli, the case makers), they're not cheap, but nor is my gear, so worth it. Fungus can spread to other gear if not careful
