Future upgrade help

I've had my D60 since the end of 2008. Thinking to a future upgrade, I'm wondering which of the current Nikon DSLRs would be a good upgrade for general photography. I don't really need any video capability and I understand that I may have to change lenses too. I'd save for one of the more expensive models if need be but I've no experience of any of the other cameras in the Nikon stable.
So what would be a good all rounder. Opinions greatfully received.
 
How about a D90, which would also allow you to keep your lens?

Check out the likes of Digital Depot for good prices for the body only version or kit.
 
I only have two lenses at the moment so not too concerned about sticking with them, but before adding more I want to upgrade the body. If it happens to be the D90 then fair enough but I don't want to tie myself down to anything just quite yet.
 
I upgraded from a D60 to a D90 and am really glad i did , the D60 is a great camera but the D90 is a cut above in my opinion , theres the video function which you say you dont want though , but I've never used mine

See that's what I'm thinking. Why pay money for a function that I don't really need or want. I'd rather that money was spent on the basics. Need to think some more about this.:thinking:
 
Another '+1' regards choosing the D90 as a progressive upgrade from your D60, Dougie.

The video capability of it is really nif-naff from a cost perspective. Just like mrgas, I've never used it mine.

The immediate advantages over the D60 that spring to mind are:

A built-in AF motor giving you compatibility with lenses other than that in the AF-S (and non-OEM equiv) range. Glass like the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 is a real pearl!

The D90 has a superior AF system (inc. 3D tracking,).

Much, much better ISO performance for shooting in situations such as low-light.

The above leads to far greater image IQ... Other stuff that springs to mind which the D90 has over the D60:

Live view, DOF preview and a larger LCD screen, etc, etc.
 
Would AF-S lenses AF with the in camera motor of the D90 of would they be manual only? also can someone tell me what IQ stands for? I've seen it mentioned a few times now but still baffled by the abreviation. :thinking:
 
IQ = Image Quality
AF-S lenses will work perfectly on D90. They have the motor built into the lens.
