So there I was, minding my own business when George posts this:

I really liked that image, exposure and all, so I decided I'd try to emulate it.

"Reece (7 y/o son), where is your box of pencils, please?"

"Here Dad?"

"Do you have any you haven't chewed?"

"Ehh. probably not, Dad."

"Great!"

Eventually I found one that could be salvaged and sharpened. Here it is but I reckon George just handed me my butt. :( Still quite like it, though..

Nice shot, crazy pencil lead. It may have been better without the glue line where the two halves are joined together as this draws my eye away from the amazing coloured tip.

They glue two halves of pencils together???? 0_o. Every day is a school day!

It's a good shot(s) but I think George trumped you with his composition :p

It is two pieces of wood glued together
Yeah it really is you know look carefully in future or not very carefully in the shot here you can se the join easily.

HaHa!! You beat me to it! I was going to heal that this evening! Saved me a job, thanks Les!! Much better! The reason I photographed that plain of the pencil was because it was the only side where the edge of the lead was even.
 
I've never seen a pencil lead like that, is there a link to a site that mkes them ?

My wife thinks she got it at some craft fare. There's no text on it anywhere. However, if you Google "multi-coloured lead pencil" there are various ones available. I'd never seen one myself until last night!
