Hi gang.

not been on here for a long time, been off frolicking around the world, with my not so trusty G11

im about ready to bin it, so thought it would be worth an ask on here for any advice.

issue 1.

there seems to be some kind of lens cap, inside. its blocking the lens and no light comes through. when i put on the ND filter, i can see the nd slide infront of what looks like a matte black sheild. no image is displayed on the back at any point and when a pic is taken its totaly black. whenm in manual mode the light meter jsut reads under exposed all the time. im not sure if it is some kind of internal lens cap, or part of the shutter mech.

issue 2.

the total opposite, when issue 1 is not present, as its a bit intermittent the camera will take a few good shots then start 'whiting out' as i call it. every shot is jsut white. even in manual if i set it to the highest speed and largest f-stop it still comes out white. weird.

issue 3.

sometimes when its doing the white thing you can see some of the image but its all lines, going from left to right, sometimes its so bad you cant see the image, sometimes its white like above and sometimes you cant notice it untill i upload to my laptop.

pretty sure the camera is worthless, but im going to try a firmware update, before i bin it. as its the only thing i can think to do.

and hello from singapore:thumbs:

thanks
brad

this is with the camera on and zoomed all the way in, torch shone in and pic taken with my 40d

If they can't help, or it turns out to be too expensive to repair, try selling it on ebay rather than binning it. I'm always surprised at what faulty cameras fetch on there. If nothing else, the disks/charger/manual/leads are worth something.
Good luck.

Thanks Tori, im heading back to London in a few days and got two quotes.

£129.99 and £145.99

I really dont want to pay this much. its not very old and i have a new camera, but then again its jsut sat here doing nothing.

I was hoping that someone has had the same problem and there is a easy home fix for it, but i know im pi**ing in the wind.

I have a G11 and have never come across this...

But, if you are prepared to try a self repair, G11 lens units often come up on ebay so you could try replacing that?

Im just not sure what to replace, its almost like its 'sticky'

sorry to drag this up again but i thought id show some example images of the second problem

If anyone has seen this 'interlacing' or has any idea what the problem is, to me it just looks like the sensor is shot....but id like a second opinion.

thanks
