G11

Hi

I am looking at buying a G11, mainly so when out with bike I can take a half reasonable camera for macro stuff, without having to take the SLR.

My question is, with the 5x zoom on max on macro, what is the distance between camera and subject.I know it can focus at 1cm, but thats just going to scare away bugs, just trying to work out if G11is going to be too close for that kind of work.

Don't know if the G11 is the same (I expect so) the G12's minimum focus distance on macro at 5x zoom is 30cm (12")

The manual says:

"the shooting range is approximately 1 - 50 cm (0.4in. - 1.6 ft.)from the end of the lens (when the zoom lever is pushed to the maximum)"

In practice I can only achieve focus at about 8" or 200mm when at max zoom (5X)

In contrast, at the min end of the zoom you can get into 1" but its a bit awkward.

Some piccies here with the focal length data. Some outside hand held, others inside on a tripod. Most were taken as close as I could get to the subject but even within range the focusing was difficult hand held. There are some oof just to give an idea of how close you can get.
