hey guys,

I`m looking at setting up my own gallery site to display my pictures on.

I have a dedicated server running debian and LAMP.

What software have other people used for galleries?

I tried Gallery2 but it doesnt seem to offer much customisation options.

I actually used Jet Photo Studio to make the gallery code then played with it so it fitted in with my web site design, now all i do is add to it.

I have since started messing with gallery2 again and have found that it is quite customisable.

Got my Gallery up and running now so just need to add pics

Gallery 2 is in php & needs a database back end so some low cost web hosts aren't an option.

Gallery 1 is a bit less customisable, although still very good (we use it a lot - we are a web design and programming business), but it doesn't need a database back end and set up is basically easy.

Gallery 2 is easier to integrate into an existing web site style than Gallery 1, but there are some simple tricks, such as iframe and embed commands in html that work fine with Gallery 1 so you can embed it into an existing page design.

Drop me a line if I can help more.

oh right, I didn't want to use php - I just nabbed the lightbox code and put it into my website layout - it just works :)

The problem I was having with gallery2 was changing things like the gallery name and the logo.

With Joomla and other CMS there was the option to choose the site title but for gallery2 you change the name of the main gallery :D

I like the carbon theme but it seems that nearly 90% of all galleries out there use that theme lol.

I`ll prolly look into creating my own template for it.
