Gatwick airport

Is there any good free to use locations by the airport? Dropping some family off for a flight next week and was tempted to have a go at some aviation photography.

This web-site gives possible spotting locations but I don't know how good any might be for photography.

Another site which might be useful is http://www.plane-mad.com/airport-spotting-guides/united-kingdom/london-gatwick-lgw-egkk.html but this says "Gatwick is by far the worst airport to spot at in London and even one of the worst in the whole of the United Kingdom".

I live local and there arent really many places to take photos. Alot of the areas surrounding are used by people but they are always pounced on quickly and asked to move on.

I used to work there.

South end of the runway I'd suggest.

There used to be a viewing gallery at South Terminal. Don't know if that's still there though. Been a few years.
