Hi, I'm thinking of getting the GEM DSLR Rucksack off Amazon for £30 to save buying a Lowepro. I was wondering if there is anyone who has owned or used one of these, or is still to this day and what you think. I'm aware quality wont compare to Lowepro or the like but I only want peoples views on value for money and reviews.

I had a GEM rucksack once (the laptop version) and it was absolutely brilliant!

It was exactly the same quality as the Lowepro mini trekker AW but without the Lowepro badge, I was a very happy bunny but I then started buying Lowepro rucksacks and to be completely honest I am actually planning on going back to GEM for quality and price.
 
Identical to the Lowepros apart from the badge. I have one, and there is no difference between it and a genuine computrekker in design materials or build quality! :thumbs:

Same as above really. I am very happy with the quality of it. I outgrew my Lowepro Orion Trekker, and bought this instead, the build quality is very similar between the two bags.
 
I have one and its fine. Got it on ebay as they have a shop.. so look around as you might find it cheaper there than on amazon.
 
I had the version which had the laptop pocket and it was great. :)

I was going to get another one but I paid so much for the rucksack that I have now, that I'll be using this for my gear. ;)
 
I've had Lowepro and GEM, they are equally good IMO. GEM are exceptionally good value.
 
Brilliant. Great to hear from first hand users, seems like the quality isn't a concern as first thought, it seems to measure up similarly to the Vertex 100 or 200 I believe.. Presumeably you don't have issues with fitting kit in?
 
I think they have changed the design slightly for the bag I got judging from the pictures, but it is a similar size and I fitted D300 + Nikon 16-85mm, Nikon 70-300mm, Sigma 10-20mm, Nikon 50mm, filters, memory cards and batteries and of course a laptop. ;)

That all fitted in quite easily. :)
 
In simple words....it's a copy of Computrekker. I have one and I love it. If it breaks, I will buy another one. For these money, there is NOTHING better to buy.
 
I bought one of these 4 years ago and am still using it now, It goes with me wherever I go, work, shopping or a day out somewhere.

Best item I ever bought, tough and up to the job.

I have had a GEM backpack for about 12 months and the quality is as good as you could possibly need it to be. My back has no signs of wear and tear on it yet and the zips are all as good as new after lots of use. I can easily fit enough kit in there to go out and do a days shooting and there is a laptop compartment too which I use to keep the reflector in.

Highly recommeded by me.
 
You won't regret it..I've had one now for over 2yrs and it quite literally is a Gem. Nothing to add to the recommendations. Enjoy.
 
So I jsut recieved my bag today from Amazon and its fantastic. Thanks to all who helped. I can now add myself to the list of recommendations. Excellent build quality and loads of space all for £30.. Fantastic!!
