General Advice on Camera Set Up

Hi Guys,

I have a dilema and would like to gauge some opinion. I guess I should start with the kit that I have. Its as follows:

Canon 500D Lenses are 10-22mm, 14-40mm L, 50mm (f.1.8) and 70-200mm (f4) L.

So....I have been saving for a Canon 5D MkII and i'm almost there. I don't plan on losing my 500D as I'd like to have a second body.

My issue I guess is that when I upgrade the 10-22mm will obviously only be used on the 500D (given its an EF-S Lens). In addition my 17-40mm will become my wide angle lens.

What do you guys suggest as a decent lens to plug the gap from 40mm to 70mm on the full frame (given that I have a 50mm)? Maybe you think that the range is so small that it doesn't really need to be filled?

As for what i like to snap, well, mainly landscapes (hence the wide angle being covered).

I guess I would just like the comfort of having a walk about lens and get the feeling that walking around a city it may be a case of lots of swapping lenses.

Price wise, well I do like to buy good lenses so price isnt really a consideration at this stage.

My preferred pair of lenses is a 70-200 f4 IS plus a 24 TSE II
So I don't think the gap will cause you problem.

Either way - get to know the 5DII and see how using full frame affects using your existing lenses before filling the gap.
 
IMHO you absolutely need a walkabout zoom - 24-105L (my choice) or 24-70L.
 
You won't miss that gap..... and I personally don't see a reason to buy a 24-105 or 24-70, unless money isn't a problem and you just want one!

well, like most i assume money is always an issue. I love photography though so, if I feel i need something i just save and get it.
 
A gap of 50mm to 70mm is virtually nothing.
For a long time I had a Tamron 17-50mm and a Canon 70-200mm. Not once did I feel I was missing anything in between.
The Tamron made a good walkabout zoom and as it is mostly used for landscape work, it spends most of its time nearer 17mm.
The 70-200 was used as a general purpose zoom covering distance, portrait and landscape work.

As landscape is your thing I reckon 30mm focal difference can easily be obained with foot zooming instead and moving your position about costs nothing.
