general prime lens for d300 24mm?

ok i currently have a sigma 18-50 2.8 for my d300 and have been doing quite a few parties and functions.
I general walk about taking shots of guests enjoying themselves etc.

I have found that in very low light with a fstop of more than around f4 the sigma starts to struggle a bit and starts to get soft.

I mainly shoot quite close and have found im using the lens wide open most of the time between 18-30mm.

If i was to upgrade i would love to have the nikon 18-55 2.8 as i have been told this is optically as good as the 24-70 2.8 on full frame.

Would the 24mm f2.8 be a good compromise here?
Im looking for a nice sharp lens that i can use instead of the 18-502.8 in low light conditions.

Other option for slightly more angle would be the 20mm f2.8 which might be a better choice?
 
35 /1.8? Plenty sharp wide open for people/party shots, stopped down to 2.4 or so and you're hitting the really sharp range on the lens. If it is wide enough for you, then you're in good shape cheaply. If you need wider, then why not the Sigma 30 1.4? A little bigger, a little faster, basically the same image quality.

24 mm is fine.
I used to use a 24mm sigma 1.8 on a D90 and it was / is great.
You can get in close.
I got a bargin 20mm and found that to be better though so am selling the 24mm (its in the forums at the moment).
20mm and a 50mm are doing me fine but a bit wider for out doors.
The 24mm and 50mm combo was great as well.
 
yes it was / is brilliant.

I just prefere the 20 in the mountains and carnt justify both hence selling the 24.
