Generic battery grip

Hi everyone

I have recently bought a 5D M2 and want to get a battery grip BG-E6 for it, the Canon one's are quite expensive and I am considering buying a generic one instead. So i have 2 questions:

# will the use of a generic grip could affect the camera's warranty in any way?

# If anyone use a generic grip, what make is it and are you happy with it?

I had a Hahnel (one of the better non OEM) grip on my 50D. It was not too bad quality wise, but it did have a habit of working loose which disconnected the battery. If this had happened while the card was being written to, it could have wrecked the card. When I bought my 7D, I bought the genuine item, and it has been faultless.
 
Got a phottix battery grip and its as good if not better than the canon version. Well made, all the buttons have the same feel as on the canon. Using them probably will effect your warrenty. I doubt anything the grip can do will break the camera enough that you cant remove it. Doesnt 3rd party lenses also void warrenty?

What you need to consider also is, are the third party grips as watertight as the Canon ones and what are they like under different weather temperatures (do they go soft in the heat).I had the same thoughts for my Nikon and in the end decided to get the Nikon one to be on the safe side. Don't get me wrong some third party grips are fine and others may be a bad fit - poor material- not weather proof etc.

Had both a generic grip (£40) and a real OEM Canon one on my 5D2. The generic didn't recognise batteries properly and didn't have the same feel to the shutter button (it was a positive click rather than the 5D2's gradual increase in pressure). In addition, the cheaper grip flexed as it didn't have a mag alloy body. For a 5D2, I'd bite the bullet and buy the Canon one. Something like an xxxD, I'd buy a third party one...
 
Looks like it is to be a Canon then, just need to look out for the best price around.

I got the phottix battery grip works very well except when I put it in the sport mode and use a wireless remote trigger, it takes off and will not stop. Even when you turn the camera off and back on again its off like a machine gun, the only way to stop it is to remove the battery's

I got a 5D2 and was looking for a BG E6.Onestop digital were doing new for around £169.I managed to get one from this forum ( still waiting for the delivery though )
 
onestop digital seems to be the cheapest at the minute
