Going over there during March for a 3 week drive, mountains/swamps/coast? Not too strenuous please, 3 score years and a bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated, starting/finishing in Atlanta, enjoy driving so distances are no problem.
I've Googled and looked at maps but there is nothing quite like first hand advice,

I stayed in Hilton Head SC a couple of years ago. The island is pretty much geared about beaches, golf, restaurants and relaxing. Really nice place. Beaches are spectacular. Would go back in a heartbeat. I can recommend some really nice restaurants here if it does take your fancy, although this was 2 years ago!

We drove up to Charleston and stayed here: Fulton Land Inn
Really nice little hotel, staff couldn't have been friendlier and more accommodating, and it's in a really good location to walk everywhere. Definitely worth heading out of the city to some of the old plantation houses, which is a real eye opener.

If you want to head up to the blue ridge mountains, The Red Horse Inn was really nice. Really incredible views.

We went end of feb/march, and the first week was freezing, and the second week was roasting, so make sure you've got a nice range of clothes!

Charleston and Savannah are nice places. I'll come back with more when I have time later.

Well, I've had a look at places I've been round in that south eastern corner - and nothing springs to mind except for the aformentioned Charleston and Savannah. That coastal region is nice, with lots of attractive and picturesque old colonial houses. The whole area is quite reasonable, scenery wise, but nothing outstanding. Nevertheless, you should find the whole trip quite enjoyable.

If you make it as far north as Virginia - and in 3 weeks there's no reason why not - then take a look at Luray Caverns http://www.luraycaverns.com/.

However, it being March then it's going to be getting a bit on the cool side the further north you travel. I'd be inclined to head east to the Charleston/Carolina region, down the coast to Savannah, down to Jacksonville Florida then head west towards the Florida coast - Tallahassee [a dump] - Panama City. The coast there is nice. Depending on how your time is going, you could travel as far west along the coast as suits you with some nice temperatures and weather. You may even make it as far as New Orleans before turning back to Atlanta. That would be around 1500 miles. I've done twice that easily in 2 weeks.

Or do it in reverse - head for New Orleans first, east along the coast then turn up to Atlanta when it suits you.
