Geotagging

Hi Guys,
I would assume this question has been asked before but i would like to see if people here use Geotagging by means of software or Hardware.

I currently publish my photos onto my wordpress blog and over time I want to build up a map around the globe of places I have been and locations as to where my photos have been shot and embed this into my blog.

It is for this reason i have been toying with the idea of purchasing a GPS unit for the camera. What are people’s thoughts on these units? Are the cheap ones on ebay as good as the official ones? Or is it better just to manual Geotag photos using software, if so what do people use?
Cheers.

I don't geotag my photos very often and, for that reason, couldn't justify spending out on kit specifically for that purpose.

On the odd occasion when I feel the urge, I use an old trekking GPS unit I have had for years, and use a piece of free software that I downloaded off the net to match up the photos with the GPS track log. The only thing I need to remember to do is make sure that the clock in the camera and the GPS unit are the same, and that the GPS is switched on when I am taking photos.

I've owned both the cheaper ebay version & the Nikon GP-1....

To be honest they do exactly the same & there isn't much difference in boot up time & actual pin pointing the position.. The only difference was that one has the "Nikon" logo on it & the cheaper version doesn't..

Also not forgeting that the cheaper version is just over half price of the Nikon....

hth...

I use a QStarz gps logger that has an 18 hour battery life. Turn it on at the start of the day, then download the full day's track in the evening. Geosetter, from www.geosetter.de is a free programme that will then let you sync the photos to the gps tracks. It also works with Google maps, so if you forgot to being the gps logger you can still set locations manually and the appropriate coordinates will be added to the pics. It all works very well and you should be able to do it for 30-40 quid depending on the cost of the logger you buy.

Exactly the same as Cuchulainn, insomuch as I use Geosetter for tagging the piccies, and I bought my Garmin Etrex Legend specifically for walking.
