Yes
Maybe the first good thunderstorms of the year for the south this week , low chance of some tonight but more so tomorrow. Good luck if you get any for photography

Anyone got any tips for getting good results? Tempted to have a crack if we get "lucky"

According to the met office it was due to hit around midnight here
but a quick check reveals that we have been down graded to
"heavy showers" :(

I’m glad that I have a lightning detector on my PC, it gives me more than enough time to get setup should a storm come by.

As for tips, last year I set my camera to about f14 i think it was then a 30second shutter. Have a peice of black card or something in one hand, so when you catch a lightning bolt put the card over the lens to stop anymore light getting in.

It’s alot of trial and error really.

The aperture will need to change depending on how far away the lightning is from you, and it often changes with each bolt, so it’s not easy.

"Screaming in the wind, screaming in the rain, screaming in the face of the storm ... "

Any tips on capturing activity over Mordor?

Ooooh, I just heard a rumble......camera's charged and on tripod, remote release plugged in, ready to leg it outside at a moment's notice..... What's the betting it'll blow over now I've said that!? :D

It's just not fair. We hardly ever get decent thunderstorms round our way. We are surrounded by hills so are sheltered from the worst/best.
The last decent storm I remember was in 1985. Lightning looked like leaf-less trees in the sky, and it lasted for a good couple of hours. And of course I didn't have a ruddy camera.

Well, we had a bit of wind and what not, but no storm :(

These are a couple of the shots I got last year, was the first time I'd tried shooting lightning
