getting my Mac ready to sell

I've decide to sell my imac, as I seem to spend most of my time on the MBP, and it's just sitting on the desk not getting used.

How do I go about getting everything off the imac on to the MBP? do you use some sort of firewire cable or something, is there a program that will do it for me?
And then what should I do to erase the imac before selling it? I seem to remember something about secure erase?

Any help would be much appreciated

Use the migration assistant for transferring files between your iMac and MBP

as for formatting, start from the OSX disk that came with your iMac, when it's loaded go to disk utilities and select erase, there should be an option for secure erase with up to 30 passes if you select it, 30 is a bit extreme I usually use 7 passes or zero out data option
