Getting ready for summer?

With snow on the ground at the moment my thoughts are turning to the, hopefully, nice long summer days.
With that in mind what has been your best photographic purchase (other than the camera or lens). For example what is the most used gadget etc in your camera bag that you wouldn't be without?
 
Mine most definitely was when my kids were younger, their pushchair
Absolutely perfect for carrying the camera bag over the handles.
Mind you had a few hick-ups when the kids leaped out without warning
Now i have to carry my own bag as hubby wont carry either
So get kids and then a all terrain buggy with straps :D

My most used item would be the Black Rapid strap. The sling style made a real difference to carrying the camera and lens around.

After that it would be the rocket blower - ideal for quick lens cleaning.

Easy. My monopod. Well, monopods to be exact - one compact and one chunky big'un.
 
I've been shooting with a DSLR for 8 years now, and never used a strap. Last year at the London Gadget show I brought a Joby Ultra fit sling strap. This was a revelation and now I use it most of the time. I'm looking forward to the summer even more now that I have confidence ein using a strap.
The other thing (are we allowed two, if not its this) I've just brought is a Canon 270II flash. I've been wanting to get in to using fill flash for sometime but have never got on with OB flash, my 5DMKIII doesn't have a flash, and my 580EXII is to heavy for me to carry around. This little flash is going to be perfect for those bright sunny days.......all 7 days of it :-)
 
Not a gadget in the bag, but the bag itself.

It carries all my gear and has a bit of room to spare, I'd be in a right mess without it.

My bag a thinktank retro 20. When i walk around it, even on dody area's no one knows its a camera bag lol and what summer?

Summer doesnt look like coming AT ALL
