Can anybody tell me how many pictures can be taken on a Fully Charged Panasonic Battery in the GF1

Seriously thinking of leaving DSLR for what looks like a super baby...

Well my D90 is hardly getting used these days finding too bulky to carry around.

Depends on how long you have the camera switched on plus if you turn the screen off it will last longer. Also how much fiddling and looking at the images you have taken. In my experience the battery lasts a good long time as it is pretty big.

Apparently you can get a replacement for about £18 on the net but not sure where from. Perhaps someone can point us in the right direction.

Thanks Andy
Regardless of how it is used....how many pictures on average do you think you get...those cheaper batteries look interesting considering the Panasonic one is £59

Erm....to be honest i have no idea. All i know is that i took it with me to Brighton on new years day and i got about 50 shots BUT i had the camera on most of the afternoon with the screen on and i then took more images at home, another 15 or so and I'm sure that the battery still showed full when i had finished, if not then it would certainly be just the 1st bar that would have disappeared. I did a lot of standing around on the pier waiting for the sun to go down. I also took some video!!

I will get a spare battery at some point but to be honest i have never had a situation where i have had to stop because of lack of battery except once with my compact and even then i had finished for the day.

I wouldn't worry about the battery, if the camera is right for you then a £20 spare battery is a small price to pay!

Cheers Andy certainly sounds good to me....one question mate, does it have a built in flash?

I am tempted now, seen one in Matheys with 20mm for £619 which is an excellent price + Three Years Panasonic Warranty .....this has to be good offer and only a week to make up my mind....

Better get my Nikon Ad. prepared to pay for it.

Yes there is a built in flash.

Matheys is where i bought mine from and they are great guy's. The GF1/20mm f1.7 is a superb set up, you won't be disappointed.

I got mine from www.digitalmediastore.co.uk and it works with the latest firmware - £17.99 inc free postage

Thinking of getting one of these - so it works with firmware 1.1 for the GF1?

Wonder what will happen when Panasonic release another firmware update - guess it could stop working?

Still - for £17.99 compared to £59 for a Panny one, it's probably worth the gamble. I need a spare one as I'm being brave and leaving my 5D Mark II at home when we go to Disney next month - in favour of the GF1 !

Unless it's a vital piece of firmware, you don't have to update and your battery will still work :)

hey, i see you are in essex too, so i assume you didn't actually visit the store to buy your GF1 from mathers?

reason i ask, is that i spoke to them last week and they said you had to have an in-store demo to take advantage of the 3yr warranty

i am ordering mine this week and think it will only come with 1yr

unless you know different?

Cool, you're right the price is pretty unbeatable

I was in Chelmsford Cameraworld today and they had the GF1 with 20mm for £649 - well only if you wanted a RED one! getting some more in stock this week apparently.

Probably stick with Mathers though

Cheers

When I was searching about the gf1 before deciding to get the g1 instead i'm sure I read somewhere that battery life was approx 350 shots, although quite how they came across that figure I don't know because there are so many variables.

Ordered one 3 days ago, arrived today - works perfectly, thanks Glenn

I'll just be holding fire on firmware updates to be on the safe side, unless there's a very good reason to update it (already on latest versions for the body & 2 lenses).

You're welcome!

Me too :)
