GF1 being discontinued?

:eek: Well, that got a few of you sitting up. Apparently, some USA camera shops are now showing the GF1 as discontinued. I know they are still available here, but if the rumours true, for how long?

If you've been thinking of getting a GF1, maybe now is the time....

Not surprising I suppose - not many companies continue to make a model once it's been upgraded.
 
I've been surprised how many have come up in the classifieds over the last few months
 
Replacing the GF1 with the GF2 is like when Canon replaced the 50D with the 60D. It's not really a replacement, it's summot different.
 
Maybe there's a GF3 waiting in the wings. Mind you, the GF1 will be a hard act to follow. Had mine for just over three months and love it.

True, but will Canon continue making the 50D? On their website they seem to have three XXXD cameras, but only one XXD.

Panasonic regard the GF1 as the predecessor to the GF2 so I think it's only on their website "while stocks last".
 
The GF1 is being replaced by the GF2

Sad really, as the GF2 won't have anywhere near the usability of the GF1
 
I suppose the GF1 has been around for over a year now which is a long time for electronics. It's a shame the GF2 isn't a real upgrade, more a different version of the same camera.
It would have been nice to see a few improvements that added usability to a new GF1 rather like the G1 to G2 and GH1 to GH2

When I compared the GF1 and the GF2 on the panasonic web site I thought the GF1 was overall the better camera, which is why I decided just to buy that one , had it three weeks now and really like it. Mainly got it for when not able /want to take main SLR system, think I might end up using it as much. Also when away on holiday and girlfriend won't mind as much (I hope :lol:)

Me too, I seem to use it all the time now and when I use the SLR I have to keep remembering what to do.

If Panasonic were to bring out a weatherproof version with even better high ISO performance, built in stabiliser and a fold out screen, I'd be at the front of the queue for one.
