Yes
Panasonic is claiming the AF speed of its new micro system Lumix DMC-GH2 is faster even than a top end phase detection DSLR. With the read rate of the newly developed contrast detection system increased from 60fps (GH1) to 120fps for the GH2, the company says the camera will find focus in 0.1 seconds with an accuracy that 'exceeds by far' that of a DSLR camera.

Wonder how true that is?

GH2 does sound pretty impressive, especially for those of us interested in video - though I am more interested in what a GF2 could be like.

Yes, that could be good, especially if there is a better VF add-on which is higher res than the first one. Any rumours on that anywhere, as I'm guessing it must be due for a refresh soon?

We must notify all sports photographers to replace their 1DIV's with the GH2 for the forthcoming Olympic games then

You got to love marketing departments ...

Be interesting to see just how fast it is though, it's certainly a bold claim. I've found it pretty hard to focus on birds in flight with my G1/GF1, though it's fine for most other situations.

Well in my experience with the G1 the contrast autofocus, even on lenses updated to the latest firmware is still as grindingly slow as back button focusing on the 500D, if it's faster than that, which I have no doubt it is, I still can't see it being as fast as the 500D and a USM lens, let alone catch up with the higher model camera's.
