Going to my first gig 2moro since i bought my cam and need some pointers. its a rather small venue and il be in the crowd.
Im taking my Tamron 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 XR DI II and spare batt.
is it worth while take my flashgun? as dunno how far back il be and im sure the stage well be pretty well light being an 80's band (Level 42)

Also what setting on my cam am i looking at? as its my first try out i was just tempted to mainly keep it on auto, but fancy trying out other settings.

Cheers
Kev

Hi Kev.
There was a thread on here about concert photography, but hard to find without the search function.
With the kit youve got, i would shoot manual, open the aperture right up, get a shutter speed you are happy with and adjust the iso until it all comes together.
Be aware that you may not be able to use flash, some venues will not allow it.
The best option is to learn the light sequences, that may sound funny, but it will allow you to get better shots, by anticipating good light.
You can see samples HERE, on my site, using similar method, also no flash.

Dean:)

thanks very much for that mate

I never use flash for concerts, but with a slower lens like yours you might have too, if the venue allows it.

Without flash..
I'd stick the camera on A and set the lowest number you can, remember it will change as you zoom with that lens thouygh, Bump the ISO up as far as you can to get a good shutter speed and wait for a good burst of light and shoot.

With flash..
Depends how far away you are really, stick it in M, middle of the range ISO and experiment a bit with shutter speed and lower the ISO if you can get away with it.
