Well it’s not like a rock concert as such. It’s more of a guy I’ve been speaking to who does karaoke gigs and stuff, So its indoors(well state of the obvious frankee lol) But I’ve never done indoor photography like of the sort. But I’m willing to try it. I know there’s a few of you on here that do it, and there’s been topics but it was a long time ago about a month or 2.

So was wondering if anyone could give me any tips with the camera.

I have an eos 400d with the kit lens(35-55) 3.5/4.0 and tamron 4./5.6 55-200 lens and a flash gun if that’s any help to you? Comments much appreciated thanks

how small, I shoot an open mike and am allowed to use flash,

your lenses are slow so without flash you will majorly struggle,

do you know any of the locations if pos go and talk to the management they may let you use flash for a bit.

I like off camera flash bounced to give interesting shadows but if your on a time limit (he will poss have a 3 song set - the norm at my open mike exept for the regulars when its quiet) then use on camera and TTL

But generally widest aperture shutter fairly high (depending on look, if you want funky blurred guitar hand then go low) and iso will almost certainly be 800 or 1600 unless there is a lot of light or they let you use flash.

Can you let us know what the light is like in the place?

edit: focus on the eyes ;) shouldn't be an issue with the DoF you will be getting but useful to remember

I was at a gig recently watching some photographers...
you can go different routes. a nice niftyf1.8 prime would do a great job
or you can subtly bounce the flash off of the wall behind you.
or you can do what this chap did and get a 1Ds, L glass and a 530ex flash and stick the whole thing up the performers nose.

my recommendation would be angle some stage lighting onto the performers and see if you can get your hands on a 50mm 1.8. otherwise bounce that flash.
direct flash always washes people out on stages with nice back lighting I think
