I'm looking to change my existing router/ADSL Modem (O2), to one with gigabit ports rather than fast ethernet.

Has anyone got any recommendations for one that they've actually used and had experience of?

Which ADSL modem/router do you have? I'm on Be (same as O2) and I have a THOMSON TG585v7 which I run in bridged mode as modem only and then behind that I have a Linksys WRT610n dual band router. The advantage or running the modem in bridged mode is you can buy the most suitable router for your needs and then just run the supplied router as a simple modem.
 
I have the same ADSL modem/router as you. Is there an easy way in which to set up the O2 modem in bridge mode?
 
PS. I've had mine bridged for ~2 years. Other than the dodgy line (4km from the exchange) it's been great.

I also use the freeware program RouterStats (http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm) to monitor the connection and reboot the modem if the line speed drops dramatically which happens every day or two...
 
there arent a lot of routers (or at least there wasnt when i last looked) that have gigabit ethernet ports, why would they if theyre just serving as internet devices with a max rate to/from the internet of 50mbps.

cheapest way would be to get a cheap and simple gigabit switch, netgear GS108 pop up 2nd hand for about £35.

50Mbps HA. I wish. I'm on 4Mbits if I'm lucky!. The answer is because you may be streaming stuff around the house using a Gbit network and want to have an all-in-one device ;)

yeah i know but your average consumer doesnt care about gigabit wired, myself and a colleague had a rummage around a while ago and could only find a handfull of routers that support it..
