After 90 odd days I have given up on my 365, felt like it was taking over my life and stopping me getting on with everyday things, 4:30 in the afternoon would come and I would start panicking if I hadn't taken my picture for today.:cuckoo: In the end I would just take any rubbish just to get a picture. I now realise what a wasted 3 months Ive had this year.:)
Anybody else given up?

I'm doing the 365 also. I know what you mean about shooting any old rubbish. But its the challenage I'm after. I've stopped setting myself themes for now tho

I agree with the above, change to the 52, that way you should be able to take pics on 2-3 days and take the best :)

Like most I started with good intentions got about 30 days in and gave up. That was months ago. The main thing for me was finding the inspiration, after a hard day at work, I struggled to be creative or even leave the house to go looking for inspiration.

I think a project 52 might be more up my street as well. Much better chance of not uploading dross (well as good as I can ever get anyway!!!)

I have completed a 365 a couple of years ago, it was very hard work but at the same time rewarding. Even to this day I still don't know whether I will never ever do it again, or really want to do another one!

But, oddily, I am doing what's called an ongoing photo blog, that actually started straight after my 365 finished in July 2009 and have been putting in two or three photos a week on average and is still going strong to this day . . . and that's doing it in a very relaxed fashion!

For those who would like to check it out, here it is: http://idjmedia.blogspot.com/

Sorry to hi-jack your thread, William!

i'm about 90 days into mine too and although there have been a couple of times i've wondered why i'm bothering, but then i get back on the wagon and it's all good again. i can't take my camera to work so i started to improvise and use my phone with a cross processed effect app. by not restricting myself to just my dslr i found it liberating and opened up all sorts of possibilities. i can get a quick shot of something that catches my eye and not look too obvious.

try using a compact or your cameraphone and maybe switch to a 52 like some others have said

I've never taken part in a 52 or a 365. As a PPG contributor, I tend to go by the rules for submission they have there before a photo can be considered. The main rules are:

  • Does this image elicit an emotional response?
  • Is this image original?
  • Does this image offer a personal perspective of the subject and display the unique vision of the photographer?

If the image I create isn't even loosely fitting those criteria, then personally I don't think I can honestly put it on my flickr stream or let it out in the wild as it is then (to me) a mere piece of bland recording of objects. The 365/52 seems to go against this (again, for me, for others YMMV) as it's like someone shouting "Be creative now! Or else!" rather than letting the feeling flow.

I got to 6 months on mine then packed in.. dont feel I was taking a rubbish shot for the sake of it, but taking photos was become a chore and not something I was enjoying anymore.. was relieved when I stopped :)

It's tough to carry through a 365, especially I'd you gave a busy family and work life.

I'm doing a 52 at the mo but haven't had much spare time to do anything past 10 weeks due to work, looking after 2 small kids, my photography course and other togging I do. :(

Idont think Ill do a 52 either, Im going to make a clean break and get my mind set on completing my course which I feel has taken a bit of a back seat since I started the 365.
You never know in the future though.....

Carry on with it!

I have recently finished mine and I too felt like jacking it in a few times but then putting the effort in to find a photo was part of the challenge and now Ive finished it Im so glad I saw it through to the end.

I did a 52+ last year - meaning that I took several photos each week. I was determined to finish it and I did. I was really pleased with what I achieved but the result is that I have hardly taken any shots this year. It was such a relief to finish, I did not feel the need to go out and take more.

My advice would be to take on a project like that and stick to it, but be careful not to take on anything too demanding.

I am still doing mine, I can say that there has been the odd day that I have struggled and the odd day when I have thought that is utter rubbish, but then I think it would be really hard to take 365 absolutely perfectly wonderful photos so it's not something I give to much worry space in my head now, today will be day 95, and I have no idea what the shot will be yet ;)

I must add that I understand your reasons for ending the challenge, I suppose with this sort of thing you have to really enjoy it to get the most out of it and it sounds like it was becoming a chore to you.

I came across someone on flickr the other day that had just started the third consecutive 365 so was on day 700 something now there's a challenge/commitment or a person needing committing ;)

What about the POTY? 12 shots (well 9 now) over the year and you get about 6 weeks to do each one from announcement to close of entries. I am doing this as I know even a 52 would be pushing it as some weeks I just can't face getting the camera out after all the other things life throws at us.

Once I have finished my course and everything else that I seem to get thrown at me I may pick it up again, do I carry on from where I left off or do I start a brand new one? Or maybe Ill just go back to enjoying my photography and not bother about these challenges.(I told you all my head was mince!)
