glasgow airport images
Hi

Im new to this forum so hi to everyone.

I am an artist who also does a bit of photography.

I recently supplied images to an design agency that does work for BAA. They are using 14 of my abstract Glasgow buildings images to be blown up large and installed in a new lounge at Glasgow international Airport.

I am well pleased as the images are quite abstract compared to what they would normally use in an airport.

I am looking for some advice on maybe taking things a bit further.

As these images will be on permanent display i was thinking of approaching companies about doing postcards or prints.

Can anyone point me in the right direction with how and who to approach, was thinking of card companies who supply cards to tourist board shops etc

Any advice much appreciated!

My website is www.underthekitchensink.com

Any comments on my stuff appreciated too

thanks

Andy

Hello mate;
a) avoid burning jeeps.
b) are you getting cash out of them for using your stuff? if not, why not!? 14 images is an awful lot.

Hi and thanks

Yes getting 2.5 grand for the use of the images and talking about producing a load of free postcards with my images and details ie profile and website etc.

Was hoping to maybe get other outlets selling cards for me, think they would be quite unusual.

dont really know if what i got paid was good but way worth it for the exposure i suppose.

Be cool to see them at that size too.

Have a look at www.underthekitchensink.com

They are extraordinary! In a good way, I mean.

They could sell well as postcards.

Are you willing to take the risk of having them printed yourself and flogging them to shops? If so Abacus www.abacusprinters.co.uk are very good quality and almost completely reliable, however they are probably not the cheapest.

You should know that the standard mark-up for postcards is x2.35. (It can vary a bit up or down but allow at least x2)

In other words you sell to them at 20p, they sell to the public at 47p. Not good is it?

It is my hunch that there would be a novelty value with these images as postcards. It's only guesswork but they might sell really well at first, but then sales might drop quite quickly. I think that long term people will usually prefer something more traditional.

As a first resort I would try and find a local card company to take all the risk for youl. But it might be hard.

Best of luck. Great images!

Thanks for that Jerry!
Do you have any idea how to find local card companies, im having real trouble finding anything on the web, just millions of printers?

Go around the type of shops/visitor centres/museums that sell cards in Glasgow. Pick up some samples, contact the publishers with your ideas.

I think you'd be better off with local suppliers than national ones, and I couldn't help you there.:)

If that doesn't work, perhaps you could think of an organisation that might want to take the production on.

Why not the airport itself?

Is there museum which specialises in Architecture? Perhaps a local business enterprise centre might be interested.

There must be business advice centres in Glasgow. Go to them for suggestions, even if they don't want to publish them themselves.

cheers,
