Yes
I've been looking to get a flash to add to my kit but in all honesty can't justify the cost of a speedlite.
I've come across the Gloxy TR 985 at a really affordable price.

Any views on them? Good and bad :-)

I had one briefly.

It's ok for the price. I ended up returning it jn favour for the Yongnuo 565 instead.

That said the Yongnuo broke and i'm currently using a cheap Triopo which i'm quite liking on a temporary basis.

What was your reason for returning it, may I ask?

Are the speedlite's really that much better and worth the extra money?

for full ettl check out the following yongnuo 565ex 568 ex or the 500ex extremely good value for money the 568 does everything a canon 580 EX II does including HSS only thing it wont do is commander mode but there a third of the price and well built.

The main reason was recycle speed. It was advertised as 3 secs but mine was more like 5-6 secs. Fine for amateur use but at a wedding it's be too slow for me.

It was slower than my Metz and the Yongnuo was fine (well until it broke but that's another story)

Like I say, for the cash you can't grumble but you may want to look at the Tripo which is faster to recycle, looks identical but I also find the interface easier than the Gloxy.
