Tonight was my youngests school play, guess what I took to the play (yeah my new toy) I only took 11 photos, but 23 minutes of HD video wooohoooo how cool is that. I felt a like a right pillock everyone looking at me in my chariot with this platform on and the camera way above everyones heads so I could see my daughter. But superb thank you all, I am going to see what sort of microphone I can get for it, as the built in mono obviously didnt have a great pick up range. So over the next few months I will be on the hunt for 1 that clips onto the flash unit.

Once again you all helped me achieve something I couldnt have done before all this.

you know you dun good when everyone is envious of the bloke in the wheelchair!!!!!!!!!!!

well done you

and where's the picture eh?:bat:

Well done Wheels,
Check out a thread by M.D. on here, he's doing a thread where by he posts what sort of photos he wants people to achieve in a week, in order to help members build their skills.

This weeks topic is;
Take a photo of a flower with;
a) Your widest aperture setting
b) Your narrowist aperture setting.

Might help you out, especially after the comments I gave you from the last flowers you shot it could be of use to you :)

Well Wheels!! If you have a look at this thread, you will see that I made a complete cock-up of donating to the original gear.
Kevs a pillock

I'd still like to donate that £20. So if you would accept it, you can put it towards your mic! :D
All I need is a PayPal account/bank account number to pay it into.

Kev.

well done...ben hur...if you score you win...

Very surprised you were allowed to take any pictures of video. If you were at my school, you would have been bundled out of the door by some over-zealous official.

Kaouthia, they are not hiding behind Data Protection laws. Schools are using the much more devisive, 'safeguarding of children' as the the excuse not to allow photography - nothing legal or otherwise, just a fear. School position: 'we don't know if you are safe or not to be photographing children and, therefore, won't allow it' seems to be the standard position.

If they don't want unsafe pics of the kids at a school event, they shouldn't be putting on Moulin Rouge ;)

Really though, it's retarded. If I was a parent and told I wasn't allowed to take pics of my kids in school plays and such, I'd be finding them another school.

Woo. Couldn't possibly hate someone who's making the most of the HD video on their camera, I love it on mine. I think we could see some amazing short videos if some of the togs on here would just switch it over the video mode for a little bit.

I wasn't talking about video, sorry, I meant stills.

Go Wheels with the Uber photo Chariot...........

I am trying to persuade Slimbert (Damien) to join me on Darren's Chester Zoo meet - both want to come along but a hell of a trek from Norfolk.

I know the film makers using canon cameras swear by the Rode video mic. Clips onto the hotshoe and plugs straight in. Should be perfect for you wheels as the ones on the hotshoe make it difficult to see through the viewfinder but with the phot chariot and screen that's not a problem.

About £80 for the mono and £130-140 for the stereo version.

Holy cow so much?, I will just get nearer to the kids when Im taking a video of them:lol:

I use the rode video mic with my 300s and I can vouch that the quality is stunning. If I remember I will post up a video for you tonight of a recording I did with it at a gig...

Cheers James I will look out for the video:thumbs:

Well done Julian:thumbs:

You're obviously getting to grips with all the switches and technology - keep a it.

Ken

most schools will ban it because a professional recording has been made and the recording company will have in their contract that they are to be the sole video recording of the performance.

We were not allowed to take any kind of photo at the school sports day last week. Nor plays for that matter.

YET, they can record the play and then sell it after !!!

Ken I am loving every bit of this learning curve, despite occassionally getting frustrated due to limitations, I up to now am finding solutions to problems such as panning etc.

My kids school are fantastic at letting us parents video and photograph events, almost every parent going to sports days and school plays take photos and videos, never had a problem with the school.

I think a sentence with the words "nail", "head" and "knocked" springs to mind there !

Not just any pillock, but an M&S TP pillock

The reason for no photos is child protection. I do some work at the local scout camp including taking photos for their website kids on the activities type of thing. If I am going up the site contacts all those that will be on site that day/weekend and their parents or guardians are asked if their kids can be in photographs. The reason being that not all kids have lived in a happy household, some have been taken from parents and re-homed to protect them and all the other reasons that kids need to be hidden from their relatives or other people.

We have a system in place so that I know who can or can't be photographed and I avoid shooting them and it doesn't attract any attention to them making them stand out or anything other than to those in the know, it is unusual to get someone I can't shoot but we have had a few up there. Now remembering that there are not that many kids in the scout/guides that turn up on camp at the same time I am there and we get a few hits how many kids are at schools yeah all of them and unfortunately it is more and more common that kids are from a not so good background so the blanket ban is more to protect those that need a little shielding from the public. It is unfair to make them stand out and not let them be involved just so we can take photos.

In the case of the school Julian went to I guess there are no kids that need the protection.

It isn't the good old he's a p**** problem that we are lead to believe

This reason is often trotted out but then there's around 50,000 children in care. I guess some areas have more hidden children than others but you wonder just how much of an issue this is?

Our local primary school just states that photography is allowed and if you don't like it, your child doesn't have to take part in the activity.

Nice one Julian... glad you got to try out your tricked out chair... I bet it worked great too.

It was superb being able to look over all the heads of the other parents and video my daughter, where they put me is at the back of the school hall so I am not in anyones way. This is the 1st year since I ended up a slavverer that I have managed to take a video of her and photos. And it felt bloody good doing so

All down to you lot
