Go Pro for holiday cam?

I'm off to Egypt in july and considering leaving the 7d and rest of the kit and just taking a go pro as it will take snaps, record video while diving etc and going to relax rather than photos...

Has anyone else done the same and how does the go pro fare?
 
I took one for my holiday in Spain last week instead of a normal camcorder, it was great at underwater and much sharper and clearer than my normal camcorder, but soon found the fixed extreme wide angle rather limiting if you're filming people, if they're not 4 feet from the lens they're just dots. I'll take both next time.
 
I love my GoPro, combined with a smartphone for the 'normal' shots, because as the post above mentions it's a bit limited if people aren't close to you. It's great fun though, images are plenty good enough from my Hero 3+ black for holiday photos that inevitably just end up on social media (that compresses them anyway).

Don't forget you can always select the narrower field of view option for the recordings etc.
 
Aaaaand you've got the wifi on the newer GoPro models - paired with your phone it's a very handy tool for taking footage off the GoPro and quickly saving, sharing to social media, etc. Love it. It just murders the battery life, so best to do it at the end of the day when you're near a plug socket and have a nice cold beer in your hand!
 
I have the 4 so have the wifi link and can frame the shots from the phone, obviously not while diving lol
