Now, I know how good the VR was on the 70-300 and I can see its not got any worse :)
 
tamron seem to have come a long way. But there is a reason the nikon VR2 is so expensive and is the choice of professionals. It is amazing full stop. Breath taking super fast AF even in very low light. Super sharp wide open from 70-200mm.

You can't afford to have a soft or missed focused shot at a wedding or sporting event.......:shrug:

Sorry but have to argue that point isnt 100% correct.

We use Tamron and shoot weddings, yes we use Canon too but also Tamron and to be frank the brides are not hitting 100mph when going down the isle... and we use 60D's and not 5D3's and still get happy clients... :O shock horror

When we dont get a perfect shot i'm man enough to know from practice with the gear that 95% of the time it's my fault and not the lens.

The results may be marginally better but £1 or £2k better??? Not a chance

Sorry couldn't resist.

I guess is down to the individual....if you can get the results with cheaper equipment that's a bonus.....more profit.

I am wondering what exactly made you think Tamron doesn't have "breath taking super fast AF even in very low light. Super sharp wide open from 70-200mm." and is not "amazing, full stop" ? :)

I kind agree that professionals might prefer the original Nikon/Canon lens and I am not defending Tamron or whatever. It doesn't really matter to me because I am not that much into photography. But still, have you tried Tamron 70-200 VC and it failed on you or you just cannot believe something might deliver for lot less money because "there is not free lunch"?

Haha, I think you see my point that more often than not if a picture isnt how I want it to be then it was probably my fault :lol:

And I'm assuming you've used them side by side??

You do know the tamron comes out sharper on mtf don't you?? Take a look on the digital picture.com and compare the two side by side to see for yourself.

And...

I am doing a wedding with this lens ;)

Bottom line is - don't be a brand snob, if you haven't used it just accept the possibility that it might just surprise you and perhaps everyone else is right in their reviews ;)

So all people that buy quality gear are brand snobs.....get a grip....I needed a tool that would deliver....the nikon lens is that tool. It's got nothing to do with snobbery.....:p
 
Phil, congrats, looks to be a cracking lens and sharp wide open, that shower gel, you can see how sharp that is without the crop:thumbs:

Next year,,,,,,,, I will have one:)

No, I haven't, but then I'm not concluding anything is better by my own findings am I? These are others that have and me being the open minded person I am, am open to the fact that a third party lens could be sharper than a nikkor one.

They might work with your Tamron but I'd check one out in a shop before you buy it. The Kenko Pro300 DGX converters are very good though and if they will fit it'd be worth looking at them.

My x2 Kenko works fine with my HSM (non OS) Siggy 70-200.
 
Yep, I know after everything I said. Your comments and experience swung it. I've also used them before and found them very good, at the end of the day it boiled down to £££ having £400 to spend on other gear isn't to be sniffed at. I managed to try the 3 lenses yesterday and the speed of the Tamron compared to the Sigma and Canon was impressive, (noticeably faster than the sigma and comparable to the canon. I didn't completely waste the salesmans time as I used some of the money saved to buy an Ezybox speedlite kit. The rest I think I may put to a 6D :-)
 
It did thanks Phil. Only a day later than expected but that was down to plane malfunction. It arrived this afternoon, so haven't had much time to play, however the pics I have taken look fantastic. Even wide open at 200mm and 1/30 SS :-)

I take it this is a grey import (from Panamoz that is). Has anyone had to pay import tax on top of their price or do they ship from a UK address once they get it into the country?

I might end up buying one of these today - do you know who provides the 3 years UK warranty?

I haven't ever had to pay import tax but they ship direct from hong kong.

The warranty is with panamoz.

Just looked at a comparison between this and the VR2 on the digital picture.

The tamron is indeed the sharper lens...

Hi Graham,

I also use Panamoz. I have dealt with them a few times now and have never had to pay anything extra. I ordered mine last Wednesday night and it arrived yesterday, so 4 working days, however it was delayed by one day due to plane failure
