Hi Guys,

ive not been on here for a while but i am going away on holiday in september to turkey and i was wondering i would like to take my camera what the best to do with it pack it in the hand luggage or in the travel case. also have you guys got ur camera and lenses insured etc please help.

Hand Luggage only. All camera equipment is covered on our household contents insurance.
 
I always carry my gear with me as hand luggage, but then I carry a backpack, and only have a small amount of gear. But that's just me.

Travel insurance usually tell you what your insured for and how much a single item limit is in price before you have to declare any items over the limit and charged extra.
 
I carry mine in with my hand luggage and I make sure its covered on my travel insurance.
 
Hi Guys, thanks for the quick replies, yeh thats cool glad you can have it in your hand luggage thats what i guessed as yu know its nice and safe above your head lol. as im allowed up to 15kg of hand luggage would you reakon that if i put my camera bag with my 2 lenses and charger etc in, in to my big bag that should be fine should it lol.

also when you say camera is covered on the house hold contents what even when you abroad?

Check with your broker, we are with Zurich Insurance, and they will cover all my camera equipment whilst overseas for thief or accidental damage, as long as it is for no longer than 30 days in a year.
 
oh rite thats handy to know ill check out who we are with in the next week or too as there is no rush but would like to know well before i go as dont wont anything to happen to the camera lol

I have a slingshot 302 bag, (which is within size restrictions for handluggage) so put my camera, spare lens, charger etc inside & also used the top comp for passport, tickets etc so I only had 1 bag to carry.
I actually kept it between my legs during the flight in case it fell out of the overhead lockers while I was trying to doze! :lol:

I also have my gear covered on home contents insurance. Most insurers cover single items up to a certain limit & anything above that limit can be specified for an extra fee. DO check though. ;)
 
I had to add mine it wasn't coverd just make sure i had to ring my insurance and tell them what the value was . When i bought my lo pro camera bag it specified that it was ok for hand luggage i only pack camera two lenses filters and charges
 
I have the canon gadget bag which isn't tht big I just carry charger 2 lenses and the camera tht should be fine I'll pop tht in my man bag which I'll use for hand luggage.

i go to turkey every year and take a lowepro rucksack
fully loaded up it weighs a fair bit but i never let them weigh it at the check in desk
what part of turkey are you going to by the way

Yeh thts cool well I've got up to 18kg in hand luggage and 30kg In the hull so should be ok for weight lol. Oh rite in off to marmaris if thts spelt right going for 2 weeks with the other half a few of our friends have been and recommended it lol.

i went there in 1994 for the day as we were staying in the next resort along called icmiler
i should imagine it has changed a bit since then
 
You say you have got 18 kg in hand luggage. What gear are you taking that weighs that much? How are you going to lift it in to the overhead storage? I have been to Marmaris a few times but never stayed there. I have always stayed in Icmeler. Try to get some trips to the more rural parts to get the best photo opportunities.
 
just added my camera gear to my household insurance (esure). For a grands worth of cover, including worldwide travel for 90 days it is an extra £44 a year. Now sorted for my trip to S.Africa in just over a week!!! :thumbs:

also asked about used gear I have without receipts and was told that it's wouldn't be an issue if I was to claim.
 
Detailed evidence of you possessing them is handy in the event of a claim too... like photographs of them all on a dated newspaper, optionally that photo posted to yourself by registered/recorded post (don't open it when it arrives though...)

indeed, make a note of all serial numbers too.

You may not 'let' them weigh it but they may well 'tell' you they're 'going to' weigh it. We've had carry-on bags weighed in any number of airports here and abroad including Iguazu Falls just last week when we were asked to even up the two pieces of carry-on: one was 1.5kg over and the other 0.5kg under the limit.
 
I put most of my kit in a Lowepro Fastpack 350

At the moment that includes 2 Body's with grips, 6 lenses and a flash
Also have room for the wee bits & bobs (batteries, cable release cloths, notepad)

On holiday I might not take the 2nd body or the macro lens
The bag also holds my 17" laptop when needed - can weigh in around the 10kg limit on most airlines and is within the baggage sizes too :thumbs:

One of those lenses is being swapped for a 70-200 2.8 soon so it may become a tad heavier

Obviously I wouldn't roll with all of it when I get there, 2 - 4 lenses and the flash - need room for a few drinks and some suncream :cool:
