So i'm going to Cancun in a week with the family and i have a few questions.

1) I will be taking my 7D and 17-55mm lens does anyone recomend i also take the 70-200mm f4? i'm worried about taking exensive items on holiday.

2) does travel insurance cover my kit?

3) has any been before and do you recomend places i shooting shoot?

1) Personally, I wouldn't be wanting to take a couple of grands worth of kit to what is essentially a poor country.

2) You would need to check your travel insurance, some will only cover single items up to £150!!!

3) No idea

4) You might want to check your hand baggage allowance, most airlines only allow 5KG and I'm pretty sure my 7D/15-85mm is a good 2KG

There's lots of good trips out from the holiday resort - Tulum, Chichen Itza, Contoy - The landscape is flat so big narratives are out (except perhaps from the top of the pyramid at Chichen itza!). Wildlife is a bit thin on the ground. You'll see Parrots and Black Vultures most days but the best wildlife is at places like Contoy and Sian Ka'an, which is just down the coast from Tulum. Inland can be quite hazy (polariser) because of the humidity but the light on the coast can be very good. Lovely blues and great dawn light, being on the East.
