Hi, thanks for stopping by to read my thread.

Ive been debating whether to go for a high quality lens for my basic DSLR 600d.

From what Ive heard, yes id love to jump to a MK2 or MK3 5d (id wet myself silly if i could afford a 1dx) but since it would take me quite some time to save up for one, I'll have to do with putting the best glass I can afford onto the existing camera.

The best Ive read and come up with is the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM.

For me, the reviews all point to it being outstanding for clarity and sharpness.

Ive seen prices hovering around the £1500 mark. Does anyone have any links to a supplier who perhaps has an offer on at the moment or throws in some goodies with the lens for free?

for mainly uk supplier list look here
camera price buster prices not always correct

For grey importers I have seen these.

digitalrev are highly ratted and add extras. But I have never used them. If the lens goes wrong you would have to send it back to Hong Kong.

hdew cameras Are getting a good name for themselves. Are the only supplier that are meant to be source the stock from Europe. They have a UK address to send the returns too.

flashcamera Is kerso from the forum I have bought from him in the past before he started this sight. Advantage was he gave a UK vat receipt so you could us the manufactures guarantee if any thing went wrong. Stock tends to be USA sourced.

As for free bees digital revs are the only ones I know of that do but only hen buying extras like filters, or lens camera combos.

Why not second hand? 70-200 F/2.8 sells for just under £900 usually and the difference with L's is that owners generally look after them :) - and they don't lose too much value!

Carl, just buy lenses for the next year and get used to the camera's settings etc then you'll be ready with an armory of lenses for a full frame body :)

hi dave, i didnt want to go used lenses, more of a warranty thing and need to know it hasnt been abused. too much money to put on a used item for me, but thanks for the tip anyway :)

No worries buddy, I can understand the warranty side of things, I'll normally only buy a cheap lens if it's cheap cheap etc!

Looks a bargain at that price, do tell us all how the service from the shop is.

Dave £900 second hand would be for a Mk I, not your much better mark 2

Just got it delivered ! Ordered it on Thursday and came a few minutes ago. Thats good delivery times - from Hong Kong !

Just done a test shot in the back garden and the difference is very very noticeable compared to my tamron. Other than weighing a ton more (the lens now supports the camera lol) the sharpness is outstanding.

Focus speed is like WOW. Very fast and very very quiet which is great.

£1407 but I had another £5 knocked off by putting in a voucher code which you get off the site (its a popup window that randomly appears)

Cant wait until I give it some thorough testing this weekend :)

"Please note that all our products are imported goods and will not come with manufacturer's warranty but instead we will cover the warranty through our own company."

Its a nice price, but i hope for your sake you don't have any problems with it. I'd have honestly paid more for a manufacturers warranty when spending that much money, which i'll have to do when i buy my 70-200 in the not too distant future. You have a big set of a balls sir! Hope you enjoy using it :)

cheers andyred :) Ive got a GTR35 to photoshoot on Sunday, will make good use of it then :)

Peter, yes, there is a risk, same risk as dropping the thing, it weighs a load and I mean there is <such> a difference on the weight to the camera or my tamron. Definitely no more being discrete doing street photography lol. If the lens fails, it will be a big lesson on buying imports, but they have had some excellent reviews so Im hoping I'll never have to test their customer service out. Hopefully.... :/

soon find out peter, off to shoot a GTR35 this weekend and hopefully a model shoot too, though am waiting for some confirmation on the model. At least both will be outdoors so can try out the 70-200 a bit better.
