i live there, and i would say that would be fine depending on weather you want to take pics of watersports aswell i would recommend something a little longer... Were abouts are you off too?

im in cabarete near puerto plata. Im actually in the uk at the moment until next month. But punta cana has lots of lovely white sand so you should be fine with the 18-70 for most general shots, maybee taking a wide angle would be fun though like a sigma 10-20 or a canon 10-22
